Ninth Island Warriors

September 19th, 2003, had been circled on my calendar for months. It was the day that the Hawaii Warrior football team would play the UNLV Rebels at Sam Boyd Stadium. I remember calling the UNLV ticket office a month before the game to purchase tickets, specifically asking for seats in the Hawaii section. The man on the phone nonchalantly said, “I’ll take care of it.” The tickets were bought, the hotel was booked (sort of, but that’s another story), and the date was here. Hawaii v Florida

After a 2-0 start to the 2009 season, the University of Hawaii Warrior football team is still looking for respect. Wins over Central Arkansas and Washington State have done little to impress the national media. CollegeFootballNews.com posted its week 2,  “Ranking of Every Team” and Hawaii is listed as number 107 out of 120 FBS teams. Ouch! Read the rest of this entry »
